LEADERS IN LITERATURE: THE RON CLARK STORY







There are as many leaders in literature as there are leadership styles. Teacher Ron Clark is one such leader. Ron Clark was chosen to receive the Disney American Teacher of the Year Award in 2000 from among 70,000 participants that entered, and since winning this prestegious award, he has traveled the United States as a movitational speaker sharing his educational philosophy and techniques on how to help students, workers, and congregations succeed and be productive caring citizens. Ron Clark has appeared twice on the Oprah Winfrey show and was named the first Phenominal man to appear in Oprah's "O" magazine.









Ron Clark has written two books, The Essential 55 and The Excellent 11. The proceeds for these books are used to fund the operations of the Ron Clark Academy located in Atlanta, Georgia. The Ron Clark Academy is a middle school for low academic achievers in grades 5-8. Activities at the school helps to raise student self-esteem, improve behaviors, and create a social environment that is similar to that of a family. According to Ron Clark, teachers should teach the whole child not just the curriculum" and he works with children giving them numerous opportunities to excel. Mr. Clark models excellence in education as well as in life and he expects his students to do the same.





At the Ron Clark Academy, students participate in fun, exciting, and energetic academic lessons for learning Georgia State Standards at each grade level. If you visit a classroom at the Academy, you will most likely see teachers dressed up in costumes as they present their lesson or you might hear or see lots of music and dance as students learn important concepts. As part of their learning experiences, students attending the Ron Clark Academy visit all continents including Antarctica by the time they finish 8th grade.










Ron Clark leads the students he teaches using a variety of leadership styles. He is a situational leader, dealing with different situations that arise in the learning environment. He also works to create geuine relationships with his students, which helps him better understand the needs of his students and how to implement strategies to improve the social, emotional, behavioral, and academic growth of each individual student. Mr. Clark uses the Path-Goal theory approach to leadership through the drive and vision he has for the future of the students as he leads them toward success. With his charismatic personality and energetic teaching style, Ron Clark helps his students transform their thought process to believe in themselves and their abilities. He helps each student believe that success is possible.






Ron Clark is an amazing teacher, educational leader, motivational speaker, and inspriation to any teacher that believes all students can find success if they have the right motivation and role model to follow. Ron Clark believes that learning should be fun and that each student can achieve their dreams if they work hard and believe in themselves.




The TNT television network aired "The Ron Clark Story" which is the story of the life, trials, and the amazing accomplishment of an amazing and dedicated teacher and leader that has made a difference in the lives of many disadvantaged children.
